Hector's Story

This is Hector's story

Hector didn't have an easy start in life. He had been abandoned in a box when he was just a kitten. Thankfully, a caring member of the public found him and made the sensible decision to bring him to Battersea.

He was just six weeks old and missing half a tail and half a leg when he arrived. After examination, our expert clinic team decided that to avoid further issues, what was left of his leg would need to be amputated. We know that amputations are always a risk, but we felt that the operation would give Hector the best possible chance of a happy, healthy life.

Hector needed to grow a bit before he could have his operation, so in the meantime he went to stay with one of Battersea’s wonderful foster carers. He continued to grow in both confidence and size in his foster home – he loved interacting with people.

Once Hector was around six months old, it was safe to operate on his leg. Our specialist team of vets got to work shortening his stump to make sure it wouldn’t cause him any future issues. Once he’d had time to rest, heal and adjust, Hector was officially adopted by a lovely couple who lived in the country and have an exciting garden full of things for him to climb and explore.
